01What It Is

What is physical therapy?

Physical therapy is the science of restoring how your body moves. It is a proven, hands-on path to relief that treats the root cause of pain, rebuilds strength, and gets you back to the things you have been avoiding, all without relying on medication or surgery. A Doctor of Physical Therapy evaluates how you move, finds the breakdown that is driving your symptoms, and builds a plan around your body and your goals. All four clinicians at Maritime hold a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree, so whoever you are scheduled with, you are working with a doctor-level therapist from the first visit. That plan is not a printout. It is a living program that changes as you get stronger. What sets real physical therapy apart is the attention. Every session here is a full block of time, one on one, with the same therapist who knows your case from day one. Nothing gets handed off, and nothing gets lost between visits. Whether you are recovering from an injury, managing a chronic issue, or simply trying to move without pain again, this is where lasting recovery starts. We treat out of one clinic in the Manomet village of Plymouth, and people come to us from Plymouth, Duxbury, Kingston, Marshfield and across the South Shore. It is care that respects your time, your goals, and the fact that you have a life to get back to.

Physical therapy also does what pills and rest cannot: it fixes the pattern underneath the pain. Medication can quiet a symptom for an afternoon, and rest can calm a flare, but neither one teaches your body to move better or hold up under load. That is the work we do here, session by session, until the problem is genuinely behind you. And you do not need a physician referral to begin. Massachusetts has direct access to physical therapy, so you can book an evaluation with us directly. Some insurance plans still require a referral for coverage, so we verify your benefits before your first visit and tell you exactly where you stand.

02Who It's For

Who it's for.

Physical therapy is not only for the seriously injured. If pain, stiffness, or a nagging limitation is shaping your days, an evaluation is worth it. These are the people who walk through our door.

01

Recovering from an injury

A sprain, a strain, a surgery, or an accident set you back. We rebuild your strength, mobility, and confidence step by step so you return to full function, not just partial. You leave ready for real life, not just cleared on paper.

02

Living with chronic or nagging pain

Pain that never fully goes away has been running your schedule for too long. We dig into why it keeps returning, then build a plan that finally addresses the source instead of chasing the symptom week after week.

03

Trying to move and perform better

You are tired of holding back at the gym, on the trail, or on the job. We restore the mobility and strength you need to move like yourself again, and to keep the old injuries from coming back around.

03What To Expect

What to expect in a session.

No conveyor belts, no shared attention, no wasted visits. Sessions run 30 to 60 minutes, one on one with your doctor of physical therapy. Here is how a typical appointment runs from the moment you walk in.

01

Check in and warm up

You arrive a few minutes early, change into something you can move in, and start with a quick check on how you have felt since your last visit. We adjust the day's plan based on your progress, not a fixed script. Your first visit is the exception: it is a full hands-on evaluation, and you leave it with a plan you understand and agreed to.

02

Hands-on treatment

The core of every session is direct, skilled care from your therapist. Manual therapy, guided movement, and targeted techniques address exactly what is limiting you right now, with a clear reason behind each one.

03

Active work and home plan

You put in the reps that build lasting change, then leave with a clear, simple home program. Small, consistent work between visits is what makes the gains stick long after you are discharged. Most patients notice improvement within about six visits, and a typical plan of care runs two to three visits a week for four to six weeks, reassessed as you go.

Good to know

Wear comfortable clothes you can move and stretch in, and arrive about ten minutes early for your first visit. On cost, we accept Aetna, ASHLink, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Fallon Health, Harvard Pilgrim, Mass General Brigham Health Plan, Medicare and Tricare, along with Workers' Compensation and auto injury claims. We check your benefits before you come in and give you your copay and visit limits in writing, so nothing about the bill is a surprise. Flat self-pay rates are available if you are not covered.

In Their Words
Maritime Physical Therapy is by far the best place I have been for PT. Alanna is top notch, she listens, explains everything throughly and truly cares.
